Text Box: HANDBOOKS
ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMMES FOR SENIORS
These handbooks were designed as tools for staff working in Homes for elderly people throughout South Africa.
Many of the Homes struggle to exist due to huge financial constraints and do not have access to an Occupational Therapist.
As these Homes are short staffed they are reliant on untrained volunteers to run activity programmes.
The books give guidelines to planning an holistic programme taking into consideration, the physical, mental, social, cultural and spiritual aspects of an elderly person.

Text Box: “This handbook has immense practical value; it is written in a very readable style, understandable to volunteer lay carers, unskilled careworkers, and professional staff alike.  It shows that a great deal can be done creatively with, and for, those suffering from dementia.
It is not enough to do good; one must do it the right way. This is what “GERIATRICKS” is all about.”

“As an enthusiastic motivational speaker at seminars and conferences around the country, she has the gift of sharing her considerable knowledge with her audiences in a way that encourages carers to rush back to their Homes and implement her many innovative ideas.
We are indeed fortunate to have Sheila the author, now willing to share her ideas with us in print.  Her first book “Geriatricks” has proved to be both practical and entertaining as an aid to concerned folks wishing to give those in their care a stimulating and meaningful life in their autumn years.  This book will no doubt continue on this thought provoking route, offering readers a wealth of information based on a firm foundation of dedicated and diligent experience.”
